Minibus drivers fined for illegal 3rd lane driving on Rupert Craig Highway
Two minibus drivers were charged and fined for dangerous driving following incidents on the Rupert Craig Highway on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, between 09:00 hrs and 09:45 hrs.
The drivers were caught commiting the offence of illegal third lane driving through the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS).
Steffon Welch of Lot 125 Eastville, Annandale Housing Scheme, and Trenton Europe of Lot 69, Block 20, Enmore Haslington, East Coast Demerara, appeared at the Sparendamm Magistrate’s Court where they pleaded guilty after the charges were read.
Welch, the driver of minibus registration BAG 6768, was fined $120,000 for three counts of dangerous driving.
Europe, the driver of minibus registration BAE 2338, was fined $40,000 for one count of dangerous driving. The total fines imposed amounted to $160,000.
Meanwhile, matters involving nine other minibus drivers were called; however, no appearances were made.
As a result, the following individuals have been summoned to appear before the court on February 13, 2026:
