A 28-year-old man was on Sunday evening killed during a boat mishap along the Pomeroon River.
Dead is Niftan Persaud, who resided with his father at Abram’s Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.
Reports are that on Sunday afternoon, Persaud borrowed his father’s boat to go visit his child mother at another village along the Pomeroon River.
The following day, after the son did not return home, the father began to make checks at Charity, Essequibo Coast.
While at Charity, the father said he received a call from his son’s child mother, asking about Persaud’s whereabouts.
Further checks revealed that residents along the Pomeroon River, in the vicinity of Jacklow, heard a loud impact on Sunday evening.
As such, the father proceeded to the area where he observed his boat floating in the river.
Upon examination, the boat had damages to the right-side under the bow. A search party was subsequently formed and Persaud’s body was found in the Pomeroon River.
Parts of the man’s body were reportedly bitten off by fish. The matter was reported to the police and an investigation is underway.
