Golden Grove fisherman stabbed to death

Police in Regional Division # 4 ‘C’ are investigating an alleged murder which occurred on Sunday April 19, 2026 about 23:05hrs, at Golden Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara, resulting in the death of Elton Lilly, called “Daddy,” 55, a fisherman of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect, who are known to each other, were allegedly imbibing at a bar when an altercation reportedly ensued between them. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked the deceased.

Ranks responded to the report and, on arrival, observed the deceased lying in a pool of blood with several wounds about his body. A knife suspected to be the murder weapon was found in the vicinity of the bar and was secured.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene, where the deceased was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. His body was subsequently identified by a male relative and escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect, a 49-year-old security guard of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was subsequently arrested and placed in custody.

Investigations are continuing.
