Firearms, ammo missing from Cove and John Police Station; OPR probe underway

𝑶𝑷𝑹 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒂𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑱𝒐𝒉𝒏 𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏

The Guyana Police Force is investigating the discovery of seven missing firearms and 68 rounds of ammunition, which were discovered missing on Wednesday April 15, 2026, from the arms room at the Cove and John Police Station, Regional Police Division #4 ‘C’. The missing firearms comprise four 9mm pistols and three .32 pistols.

Preliminary enquiries revealed that the matter came to light during checks and a subsequent audit of exhibits and firearms lodged at the station. Further checks were thereafter carried out; however, the items were not located.

The matter was reported through the established chain of command and the Office of Professional Responsibility has since commenced an investigation. Several statements have been obtained and relevant records extracted, as part of the ongoing probe.

The Guyana Police Force is pursuing all necessary investigative and operational measures to account for and recover the missing firearms and ammunition.

A Sergeant attached to the station was arrested in relation to the matter and remains in custody as investigations continue.

The Guyana Police Force wishes to assure the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it warrants and that all appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law and established procedures.
