A Chinese national was this morning killed during a robbery at his home and place of business at Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice.
Dead is Chen Yongping, a 61-year-old businessman who operated a chips manufacturing facility at the location.
Yongping was stabbed to death while another Chinese national, who resided at the location, was injured during the ordeal.
The armed bandits escaped with over $1 million worth of cash and valuables.
Reports are that the two Chinese national arrived home from the Port Mourant Market in a bus and as they drove into their yard, they were pounced upon by the thieves.
The bandits began to attack the Chinese nationals and robbed them of cash and their cellphones. They subsequently made good their escape on foot.
The police were summoned, and the victims were escorted to New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where Yongping succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
A suspect has been arrested as investigations continue.
