Police in Regional Division #7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have arrested a 32-year-old truck driver of Timehri North, East Bank Demerara, after an illegal firearm and ammunition were found in the motor lorry he was driving.
The discovery was made at around 09:30h on Saturday, July 11, 2026, during an operation conducted at Sherima, Region 7.
Preliminary investigations revealed that ranks, during an operation, stopped and searched the motor lorry driven by the suspect, who was accompanied by a 20-year-old Venezuelan national.
During the search, one 9mm Taurus pistol, along with three matching live rounds of ammunition, was found concealed in a storage compartment of the motor lorry.
The driver was arrested and escorted to the Sherima Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were lodged.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
