Police are investigating an accident which occurred on Friday June 26, 2026, about 17:00hrs on Garden of Eden Public Road, East Bank Demerara involving motor lorry #GAD 9996, driven by a 26-year-old male of Ogle, East Coast Demerara and motor car #PAF 8496, driven by a 49-year-old Deputy Superintendent of Police attached to the Immigration Department.
Preliminary investigations revealed that motor car #PAF 8496 was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of Garden of Eden Public Road when motor lorry #GAD 9996, which was proceeding north along the eastern side of the western carriageway, reportedly veered onto the eastern driving lane and collided with the right front portion of the motor car.
As a result of the collision, the motor car spun and ended up in a south-easterly direction. The driver sustained injuries about her body.
She was assisted by an Emergency Medical Team and transported to the New Diamond Regional Hospital, where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty. She was treated for pain about her body and a fractured right arm.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motor lorry #GAD 9996 and no trace of alcohol was detected.
Investigations are ongoing.
