Forty-four-year-old Wayne McLean, of Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, was fined for several traffic-related offenses, including failing to report an accident, failing to conform to a sign, driving a vehicle without a valid driver ‘s license, breach of insurance, and driving in a dangerous manner. Police stated that the offenses were committed on Sunday, May 24, 2026, along Third Street, Lethem.
However, McLean appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the charges were read to him. He pleaded guilty to all charges. As such, he was fined $20,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment for failing to report an accident; $10,000 or, in default of one week’s imprisonment for failing to conform to a sign; $25,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment for being an unlicensed driver; and $25,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment for breach of insurance.
In relation to the dangerous driving charge, McLean was ordered to pay $450,000 in compensation to the victim for injuries and damage to the motorcycle. Judgment in this matter was deferred to July 1, 2026.
