Record-breaking NGSA results see Guyana surpass regional benchmark

Guyana has recorded its best-ever performance at the 2026 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), with 20 pupils achieving the highest possible mark of 484.52.

This year, the country’s results surpassed the regional benchmark.

These achievements were announced on Friday by Minister of Education Sonia Parag during the official release of the 2026 NGSA results at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) at Liliendaal, Georgetown.

A total of 15,706 students sat this year’s assessment, with the minister congratulating every pupil, teacher, parent and guardian who contributed to the outcome.

She described the performance as a historic milestone for Guyana’s education system.

“These are the best and strongest National Grade Six Assessment results, not only over the past five years, but also the best result that has ever been recorded in our country’s history,” Minister Parag said.

She added that after receiving the results from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), the Ministry of Education requested a comparison with similar assessments across the region.

“I am proud to say that Guyana’s results have exceeded the regional benchmark,” the minister stated.

For the first time in Guyana’s NGSA history, 20 students shared the position of top performer after each attained the maximum standardised score.

The students are:

Region One – Eudisha Williams of the Port Kaituma Primary School with 475.24 marks. She has been placed at the Port Kaituma Secondary School

Region Two – Giana De Silva of the Better Hope Primary School and Zaida Gonzalez of the Suddie Primary School both got 484.52 marks and will be attending Queen’s College

Region Three – Devya Sukhai of the Leonora Primary School, Hayden Solomon of the Professional Learning College, Ieon Fredericks of the Leonora Primary School, Kayla Persaud of the Windsor Forest Primary School, and Simran Sanichari of the Belle West Primary School all got 484.52 marks and will be heading to Queen’s College.

Region Four – Christina Doonauth of the Lusignan Primary School, alongside Chaitram Haripershad, Gaurav Deonarine, Nathalya Khan, and Shivendra Brijbhukan, all of the Success Elementary School, scored 484.52 marks and will be heading to Queen’s College

Region Five: Ranveer Itwaru of the Mortice Primary School scored 483.63 marks and will be heading to Queen’s College

Region Six – Kacy Hailie Kamal of the Tain Primary School scored 484.52 marks and will be heading to Queen’s College

Region Seven – Shristi Hardeo of the Two Miles Primary School scored 479.09 marks and will be heading to the St Stanislaus College

Region Eight – Reid Levi Pereira of the Mahdia Primary School got 478.78 marks and will be heading to the St Rose’s High School

Region Nine – Jacob De Freitas of the Arapaima Primary School got 481.59 marks and will be heading to the Bishop’s High School

Region 10 – Tyrese Abrams of the Regma Primary School got 484.52 marks and will be heading to Queen’s College

Educational District 11 (Georgetown)

Anjali Persaud of Mae’s Under 12 Primary School, Asiera Mohamed of the Graham’s Hall Primary School, Divya Isha Persaud of the New Guyana Primary School, Kayleigh Phillips of the Westfield Prep, Raiden Rambissoon of Westfield Prep, and Zahriya Niamatali of Mae’s Under 12 Primary all scored 484.52 marks and will be heading to Queen’s College.
