Prison officers from Mazaruni Prison rescued a miner after his boat encountered difficulties on the Mazaruni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) on Thursday.
According to the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), the incident occurred at about 10:55h on Thursday, while the miner was transporting fuel to a mining camp at Itabli.
The boat encountered difficult waters and began partially submerging, leaving the miner in distress.
Prison Trade Instructor Jason Acher was travelling towards Bartica when he spotted the miner and moved to assist him.
Acher and his team extended a lifeline to the miner and pulled him from the water before taking him to Bartica.
Following the rescue, Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot commended the officers for their actions and described them as demonstrating courage and commitment in saving a life.
