Police in Regional Division 4B (East Bank Demerara) are investigating the murder of Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, a 37-year-old Cuban national.
The incident occurred at about 23:00h on Saturday (September 26, 2026) at a shipyard at Land of Canaan, EBD. The suspect has been identified as a 32-year-old Cuban national.
Based on preliminary investigations, Guillen and the suspect, both employees at the shipyard, were involved in an argument which escalated into a physical altercation.
During the altercation, the 32-year-old suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and dealt Guillen a stab to his chest. Guillen subsequently collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters at the shipyard.
Other workers at the location restrained the suspect and subsequently handed him over to the Police. He was arrested and taken into Police custody.
A knife suspected to have been used during the incident was recovered and lodged as evidence.
Guillen was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. His body was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
