A 59-year-old fisherman from Charity River Dam, Essequibo Coast, has been charged with the offence of sexual activity with a child.
Gopaul Harrynarine, appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabiar at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last.
The charge alleged that on April 11 at Charity River Dam, Essequibo Coast, Harrynarine committed the offence against a female juvenile. The offence is contrary to Section 16 (3) (a) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.
The charge was read to the accused, who was not required to enter a plea.
Bail was granted in the sum of $200,000 and as a condition of bail require Harrynarine has to report to the Charity Police Station every Friday, remain 100 feet away from the virtual complainant, and have no contact with the victim pending the outcome of the matter.
The case was adjourned to June 1.
