A 63-year-old self-employed man of Lot 12 Perseverance Public Road, Essequibo Coast, has been arrested after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and matching ammunition.
The discovery was made earlier today (Saturday, June 20, 2026) by ranks of Regional Police Division #2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam), who went to the suspect’s home at around 10:30h.
Upon their arrival, the suspect was sitting on a chair in his living room and was informed by the ranks that they were in receipt of certain information and wanted to conduct a search of his home – something which the man agreed to.
During the search, one of the officers observed something suspicious with the ceiling light fixture in one of the bedrooms and upon closer examination, a white T-shirt was found. Wrapped up in the T-shirt was a .45 Colt pistol along with one (1) magazine containing seven (7) live matching .45 rounds of ammunition. Some of the serial number on the weapon was foiled out.
Questioned about the firearm, the suspect admitted to ownership and told the police, ” me get robbed three times, mi get it for my protection”.
Nevertheless, the man was taken into custody and escorted along with the weapon to the Anna Regina Police Station. The firearm was processed for latent fingerprints; however, no fingerprint impression was uplifted.
The firearm and ammunition were photographed, marked, sealed, and lodged as investigations continue.
