A Lance Corporal attached to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is now injured following a two-vehicle collision on Monday along the Kumaka Public Road, Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini). The incident reportedly involved a motorcycle, CR 3340, which was being driven by the cop from La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), and a motor car bearing registration number PPP 9918, driven by a Councillor of Haimaruni Village, Moruca.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the police officer was proceeding along the Kumaka Public Road when the motorcar reportedly turned right into the path of the motorcycle, thus causing the motorcycle to collide with the front right side of the motor car. As a result of the collision, the policeman fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries to his body.

He was picked up by public-spirited citizens in a conscious condition and taken to the Kumaka District Hospital, where he was treated and admitted as a patient. A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of the motor car showed no traces of alcohol in his system. The Councillor was taken into custody as investigations continue.

This comes one day after a traffic rank attached to Regional Police Division No. 3 was struck off his motorcycle by a turning motorcar along the Hague Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

It was reported that a motorcar was parked on the northern side of the roadway but suddenly attempted to make a U-turn and instead collided with the motorcycle that was proceeding east along the public road. As a result of the collision, the traffic rank was flung over the motorcar and fell onto the road surface, where he sustained injuries to his body. He remains hospitalized.
