The bodies of 20-year-old Lyodisa “Loyda” Waldron and her fiancé, 33-year-old Andri Francis, a Special Constable, both from Victoria Village, ECD who went missing on Sunday while swimming at the Unity Beach have been recovered.
Based on reports received, the bodies were recovered on Tuesday morning during a recovery mission involving the police, coast guards and private entities. Details are emerging as to where the bodies were located but police are at the scene.
It was reported that at about 14: 00 on Sunday, Waldron and Francis were swimming when Waldron reportedly began drifting deeper into the Atlantic Ocean and called out for assistance.
Hearing her screams, the father of two reportedly went to assist her, during which both of them were pulled under due to the strong current and disappeared. An alarm was raised, and checks were made for the couple, but to no avail.
Up to late Monday, a joint search and rescue mission comprising ranks from the Mahaica Police Station and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard was established to look for the missing persons, but they were not located.
Two years ago, two friends – 20-year-old Navin Seenauth and 17-year-old Daniel Boodram, both residents of Unity Village, drowned at the same beach where they went for a swim with a group of friends.
