Explosive wicket- keeper batsman Shamar Apple has been added to the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) squad for the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The 17-year-old will replace compatriot Isai Thorne in the local franchise.

Racking up the runs for the Transport Sports Club on the local scene, Apple was, earlier this year, selected to represent the West Indies at the ICC Under- 19 World Cup where he smashed 124 off 65 in a warm-up match against Japan.

Apple also earned his maiden call-up to the Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) Super-50 team in 2025, poising him for a List A debut at just 16- years- old and becoming one of the youngest selectees for a Guyanese Senior team since Ramnaresh Sarwan.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will head into their first match of the 2026 CPL season tonight, taking on host Jamaica Kingsmen at Sabina Park in Kingston from 20:00hrs.

The GAW squad now reads: Imran Tahir, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shpeherd, Shamar Apple, Dwaine Pretorius, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, Glenn Phillips, Veerasammy Permaul, Khary Pierre, Shamar Joseph, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Matthew Nandu, Quentin Sampson, Mavendra Dindyal and Jonathan Van Lange.
