Essequibo security guard slapped with attempted murder charge after setting wife on fire
A 68-year-old security guard of Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast, was on Friday charged with the attempted murder of his wife following an incident at their home on Thursday.
Munesh Ramnarine was arrested after the incident and appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison until November 17, 2026.
The alleged victim, a 59-year-old housewife, remains hospitalised after she was reportedly set on fire during an incident involving her husband.
According to police, at about 12:30h on Thursday, the woman was at home when a nearby resident heard screams coming from the house and rushed to her assistance. The resident reportedly found the woman on fire and managed to extinguish the flames.
The injured woman was subsequently taken to the Lima Regional Hospital, where she was admitted for burns and other injuries to her body. Her condition was listed as stable.
