Police in Regional Division #7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have arrested a 52-year-old gold miner following the discovery of 110.6 grams of suspected cannabis on Friday (September 25, 2026) at around 16:30h at the Five Miles Junction, Bartica.
Preliminary investigations revealed that ranks were conducting mobile patrol duties in the Five Miles area when they intercepted a motor vehicle at Five Miles Junction.
The vehicle was occupied by a 32-year-old taxi driver and the gold miner. A search was conducted, during which the 52-year-old passenger was found with a black bulky parcel containing three transparent parcels with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The 52-year-old was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, which was weighed in his presence and amounted to 110.6 grams.
The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
