East Bank Elite League: Swan United, Timehri United cruise into qualifier semis
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has commenced its Elite League Playoff Qualifiers for eight clubs from the East Bank Football Association (EBFA), with Swan United and Timehri United Football Clubs securing emphatic victories in the opening round on Sunday night at the National Training Centre (NTC), Providence.
Swan United produced the largest win of the evening, thrashing Circuitville FC 7-0 to move comfortably into the next stage of the qualifiers. Abram Webb opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Alex Downer added a second-half brace with goals in the 47th and 54th minutes. Mark Loncke also netted twice in quick succession in the 55th and 57th minutes, while Ronaldo Fredricks and Chritov Roberts completed the scoring in the 57th and 68th minutes respectively.

In the second encounter, Timehri United FC also advanced in dominant fashion after defeating Kuru Kururu Warriors FC 7-2. Michael Correia led the charge for Timehri with goals in the seventh and 17th minutes, while Akeem James and Tyrone Burnette added to the tally in the 23rd and 34th minutes respectively. Leroy Evans then capped off the performance with a hat-trick, scoring in the 39th, 54th and 86th minutes.
The qualifiers will continue on Wednesday, May 27, with Herstelling taking on Friendship from 15:0hrs, followed by Mocha against Soesdyke at 17:30hrs.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, with the winner of Swan United versus Circuitville set to face the winner of Mocha and Soesdyke, while Timehri United will meet the winner of Herstelling and Friendship. Those matches are scheduled for 18:30hrs and 21:00hrs respectively. The final is slated for Sunday, May 31, from 15:00hrs.
The overall Elite League Playoffs are scheduled to commence on June 7 and will feature representatives from Berbice, East Bank, Georgetown Football Association, Essequibo, Bartica, East Coast and West Demerara. The official draw for the competition will be conducted on June 1 at the GFF headquarters.
