Police in Regional Division #5 (Mahaica-Berbice) have arrested two males following the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis in a vehicle they were travelling in.

The discovery was made at about 15:40 hours on Thursday, April 23, 2026, during a stop-and-search exercise conducted on Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
During the exercise, ranks intercepted a white Toyota Fielder Wagon motor car with two male occupants.
Searches were conducted on the men and the motor car, during which four bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic and containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in two multi-coloured shopping bags in the trunk.
The driver, a 28-year-old male of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice and the passenger, a 20-year-old labourer of New Amsterdam, Berbice, were both arrested and taken into custody.
The suspected cannabis, motor vehicle and both suspects were escorted to the Weldaad Police Station, where the suspected narcotics were weighed in their presence and amounted to 45.4 pounds before being lodged.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
