Murdered, Adriel Aftab Mohamed

The lifeless body of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed was found on Friday morning with his throat slit during an apparent home invasion at Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). His great-grandmother with whom the child lived was also stabbed and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

At the scene on Friday, an uncle of the child, Naseeb Mohamed, related that he received a call instructing him to check on his mother and nephew since someone was seen in the house. He noted that when he arrived at the home, he pushed open the door, went inside, turned on the lights, and saw his mother lying on the ground.

“The first thought came to my mind, you know, like, she’s dead. And then I looked up and saw my great-nephew on the ground. I went over to him and I looked at him. I see he had a cut to his neck. And the whole place was filled with blood, a lot of blood, plenty of blood all over the place.”

While he cannot say what took place, he related that his mother is 72 years old and is not a wealthy woman. “She had a stroke over a year now. And I don’t know if it’s a robbery or they just come to molest her or whatever the case may be.”

He recalled that on Thursday, he took his mother to the National Insurance Scheme to sort out some paperwork so that she could receive survivor benefits.

He added that his nephew lived with her. “My niece and she husband also live in the house but both of them were not around. So, the person had to know some information. As the person came, we see a little video like, and they jumped the gate.” The devastated man stated that his nephew died in the most brutal way and called on the police not to spare the perpetrator when he is caught.
