Two men from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) were fined $50,000 each after they were both slapped with separate counts of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of Alcohol.
Fitz Patrick Raphael, a motorcyclist of Moco-Moco Village, Central Rupununi, was charged with the offence of Driving Motor Vehicle While Breath Alcohol Exceeded the Prescribed Limit.
Meanwhile, George Gildarie, a motor lorry driver of Lethem, Central Rupununi, was also charged with the offence of Driving Motor Vehicle While Breath Alcohol Exceeded the Prescribed Limit.
Both charges were laid under Section 39(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.
On Friday, both men appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read separately to them.
The two men pleaded guilty and were each fined $50,000 GYD or, in default, five (5) weeks’ imprisonment.
