President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali was awarded the CEAPI Medal of Honour during a one-day visit to Madrid, Spain, in recognition of his leadership and Guyana’s growing international standing.

Spanish outlet, The Objective reported that the ceremony brought together Ibero-American business leaders led by CEAPI president Nuria Vilanova, and included a laudatio delivered by Jose Rafael Gomez Sanchez, a CEAPI partner and vice president of Tecnoconsult Group.

While in the Spanish capital, President Ali met with Madrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, where the two discussed the impact of sports tourism on cities and national economies.

The head of state also toured the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid, gaining insight into the world-class facility’s operations and maintenance.

The CEAPI Medal of Honour is the highest distinction awarded by the Consejo Empresarial Alianza por Iberoamérica (CEAPI), the Ibero-American Business Council, a Madrid-based organisation of business leaders across Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.
