PM conducts site visit to Fort Island as preparations continue for 60th Independence Anniversary Flag-Raising Ceremony
Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d), Mark Phillips on Monday conducted a site visit to Fort Island as preparations continue for Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary Flag-Raising Ceremony, which will be hosted at the historic location under the theme, “The Homecoming – Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee”.
During the visit, Prime Minister Phillips inspected the ongoing preparations for the ceremony and parade. The works are focused on necessary site preparation and landscape enhancements to support the national event, while maintaining the integrity of Fort Zeelandia, the Court of Policy, and the wider Fort Island heritage site.
The hosting of the Flag-Raising Ceremony on Fort Island carries deep historical and patriotic significance, reaffirming the importance of Essequibo in Guyana’s national identity and Independence journey.
