A 24-year-old food vendor who plies his trade at his residence on Bent Street, Georgetown, was robbed in broad daylight on Sunday by two motorcycle bandits who were reportedly armed with a handgun. Based on reports received, the victim was at his food stand when two men arrived on a black Honda XR motorcycle. Police confirmed that the pillion rider, who was armed with a firearm, dismounted the motorcycle, approached the victim, and demanded that he hand over his belongings.
Fearful for his life, the victim handed over a yellow metal chain, after which a scuffle broke out between him and the armed suspect, during which the gunman discharged two rounds and the firearm fell to the ground. Persons in the area went to the victim’s assistance, leading to the apprehension of one of the men while the other escaped on the motorcycle.
Police patrol ranks responded and found one Smith & Wesson .40 pistol, along with three live rounds of .40 ammunition in a magazine. One .40 spent shell was also recovered at the scene. The suspect who was held sustained injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is presently receiving medical attention under police guard. The second suspect is currently being sought as investigations continue.
