The fatal accident charge against 61-year-old Naitram Anghad of Lot 23 Number 64 Village, Corentyne, Region Six, was officially discontinued on Wednesday after the family of deceased motorcyclist Jagdeo Bhimsingh opted not to continue legal proceedings.

Anghad had been charged with causing the death of 21-year-old Jagdeo Bhimsingh by dangerous driving following a collision along the Number 64 Public Road earlier this year.

The matter was discontinued following recommendations from the Director of Public Prosecutions after Bhimsingh’s mother, 52-year-old Nadira Nathoo, indicated that she no longer wished to pursue the case.

Speaking with reporters following the court proceedings, Nathoo said no financial settlement was reached and explained that her decision was influenced by her desire to allow her son to “rest in peace.”

“My son is priceless. My son carry no value. No money, no wealth can give me back my son. So I just settle the story for nothing and let my son go and rest,” Nathoo said.

She also suggested that another individual, whom she accused of encouraging her son to ship the motorcycle to Guyana, bore responsibility for the circumstances which led to the tragedy.

“If wasn’t for that motorcycle to ship and come to Guyana, my son wouldn’t die like this. I am the loser,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Anghad expressed relief at the outcome of the matter and thanked the family for not pursuing compensation.

“Today I am very happy that this case finish. I am very thankful that the mother and father of the kid didn’t take any money from me,” Anghad said.

During his initial appearance before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court, Anghad had been remanded to custody. However, at a subsequent hearing on February 25, 2026, he was granted $600,000 bail.

According to police, the fatal collision occurred at about 13:00h on February 17 along the Number 64 Public Road, Corentyne.

Police had reported that Bhimsingh, an overseas-based Guyanese of Number 63 Village, was riding motorcycle JH25C4002 7M003943 [a trade plate number] south along the eastern lane when motorcar PKK 5792, driven by Anghad, allegedly turned east into his path while manoeuvring into a turning lane.

The collision reportedly caused Bhimsingh to be thrown from the motorcycle onto the grass parapet, where he sustained severe injuries.

Public-spirited citizens transported him to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police had also reported that a breathalyser test conducted on Anghad produced readings of seven and eight micrograms, respectively.
