The Guyana Government will be providing each farmer across Guyana with one bag of fertiliser for every acre of land they cultivate.
This was announced earlier this evening (Friday, April 11, 2025) by President Dr Irfaan Ali during a public meeting at the Hydronie Market Tarmac, Parika.
According to the Head of State, government has set aside some $2 billion to fund this initiative.
“To support all of our farmers, we’re going to transfer $2 billion to ensure that one bag of fertiliser per acre of land is delivered to all the farmers,” he announced.
President Ali noted that this transfer will be rolled out within the coming days.
In recent years, the Ali-led Administration has introduced similar initiatives to support farmers and subsidise the high cost of importing fertilizers. In fact, government had earmarked $1 billion in fertiliser support back in 2023, and another $2 billion in the following year.
Government also plans to construct a fertiliser facility right here in Guyana that will significantly bring down the operational cost for farmers.
