Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill this morning joined Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips on the ground in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region Ten, as active efforts and continuous monitoring remain underway to contain and fully extinguish a massive forest fire.
The two government officials were accompanied by members of the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), as they assessed the situation and explored additional strategies to safeguard residents and bring the blaze under full control.
Response efforts have been bolstered by the government and public-spirited citizens. A major containment strategy involved digging a wide ditch around the fire zone and pushing trees inward to create a buffer zone, effectively preventing the flames from spreading further into the forest and surrounding community.
To further support firefighting operations, a fire hydrant has also been installed in the area.
