Driver dies after crashing car into parked truck along Soesdyke-Linden Highway

Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, at approximately 20:30 hrs, at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The incident involved the following vehicles:
** Motor Lorry #GAG 5478: A blue lorry owned by Mohamed’s Excavating Service of Yarrowkabra Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. It was driven and parked by Anthony Vriese, a 31-year-old resident from Madewini Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
** Motor Car #PRR 7155: A silver-colour car owned and driven by Asgar Ramirez, a 25-year-old male Guyanese from Lot 82 Duke Street, Kingstown, Georgetown.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the car was travelling north along the western side of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, at a fast rate. The driver, Asgar Ramirez, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the rear of the Lorry, which was parked on the western side of the road and facing north.
The lorry had experienced mechanical problems at approximately 16:30 hrs on March 16, 2025. This was reported to the Highway Patrol Base, and police officers attended the scene. They secured the area by placing reflective cones around the rear, sides, and front of the lorry. At the time of the collision, Anthony Vriese and other individuals were at the side of the lorry, attempting to repair it.
The collision resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles. Asgar Ramirez sustained severe head injuries and other bodily injuries. He was extracted from the motor car in an unconscious state by police officers and members of the public. He was then transported by a passing vehicle to Diamond Hospital, where Dr. Baker examined him and pronounced him dead on arrival.
The body was subsequently transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, pending a post-mortem examination.
Anthony Vriese, the Lorry driver, is in custody assisting with the investigation.
