In the early hours of the morning, when most of the city was asleep, a life-threatening emergency unfolded that would test the speed, skill, and precision of our neurosurgical team.

A Cuban national, 19 years old male, was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room after sustaining a violent stab wound to the head during an altercation at a social gathering.

Upon arrival, he presented with a knife deeply embedded in his skull—a rare and highly dangerous form of penetrating brain injury. Such cases are exceptionally critical, as any movement of the object can result in catastrophic bleeding, irreversible brain damage, and death.

Rapid Response and Critical Decision-Making

Recognizing the urgency, the on-call neurosurgical team mobilized immediately. Within minutes, the patient was stabilized, and advanced imaging was performed to assess the blade’s trajectory and depth.
