Member of Parliament Dr. Andre Lewis of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party has reportedly resigned from the National Assembly following his arrest on Wednesday evening in connection with serious allegations of a sexual nature involving an individual who was a minor at the time.

In a resignation letter dated October 2, 2026, and addressed to Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir, the MP formally tendered his immediate resignation from Parliament.

Lewis said his decision was prompted by the allegations and the ongoing police investigation.

“I have taken this decision in light of allegations that have been made against me and the ongoing investigation into those allegations. Given the seriousness of the matter and the responsibilities attached to public office, I believe that resigning from the National Assembly is the appropriate course of action while the relevant processes are ongoing.”

The former parliamentarian stressed that his resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing or guilt.

“For clarity, my resignation should not be construed as an admission of wrongdoing or as a determination of guilt. I remain committed to due process and to allowing the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations.”

Lewis submitted his resignation pursuant to Article 156(1)(a) of the Constitution of Guyana. In his letter, he also expressed gratitude to the people of Guyana and the WIN party for the opportunity to serve in the National Assembly.

His resignation comes as the police investigation into the allegations continues.
