Police ranks, led by a Gazetted Officer, conducted an eradication exercise at Bartica Village, Upper Berbice River, between 06:00hrs and 12:30hrs on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
During the exercise, one field measuring approximately two acres was located, on which approximately five thousand (5,000) suspected cannabis plants were discovered.

The plants ranged between three and six inches in height. A makeshift camp measuring approximately 10 feet by 10 feet was also found.
A search of the makeshift camp led to the discovery of one 12-gauge shotgun along with six (6) matching 12-gauge cartridges.
The suspected cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed, while the makeshift camp was destroyed by fire. The firearm and ammunition were taken to the Central Police Station, where they were lodged.
No arrests were made. Investigations continue.
