Police in Regional Division #6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) are investigating the discovery of 81 grams of suspected ecstasy at the No. 78 Foreshore, Corentyne, on Saturday.
Ranks, acting on information received, were on duty in the area sometime around 06:40h when a speedboat was observed arriving from Suriname with one passenger, a 53-year-old unemployed man of Georgetown.
The man was contacted and subsequently escorted to the Springlands Police Station, where a search was conducted in the presence of other ranks. During the search, two transparent plastic bags and one black plastic parcel containing quantities of green, pink and grey pills suspected to be ecstasy were found concealed in the crotch area of his pants.
The suspect was arrested and informed of the offence.
The suspected narcotics were weighed in his presence and amounted to 81 grams before being lodged.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
