Two males were arrested on Thursday (June 11, 2026) after they were intercepted by police police, carrying a quantity of suspected cannabis.
The discovery was made sometime between 14:40h and 15:00h during a mobile patrol at Seventh Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni)
During the exercise, ranks contacted the occupants of a wooden passenger speedboat which was docked along the shore at Seventh Avenue, Bartica.
A search was conducted on the belongings of a 33-year-old fisherman of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, during which a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found in a blue Lays chips container.
A further search was conducted on a 35-year-old miner of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, during which a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was also found.
The two suspects were arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected cannabis.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in their presence and amounted to 46 grams and 24 grams, respectively, before being lodged.
The suspects remain in custody pending charges as investigations continue.
