…”Our nation is destined for greatness”– Ramraj
The Anna Regina Car Park came alive today as residents from across Region Two gathered to celebrate Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary with a grand cultural program reflecting unity, pride, and national progress.
The event, which brought together citizens from Pomeroon to Supenaam, featured a rich display of cultural items including group and individual dances, dramatic poetry, skits, songs, and presentations representing Guyana’s diverse ethnic backgrounds. Performers, including students, community groups, and cultural organisations, delivered spirited performances that highlighted the country’s multicultural identity and heritage.
Delivering the feature address, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Mandalall Ramraj, underscored Guyana’s journey over the past six decades, noting that while the nation has faced numerous challenges, its people have remained resilient.
“Today, Guyana stands at one of the most defining and transformational moments in its history… This is not merely a period of development. This is a period of national transformation,” he told the gathering.
He emphasised that despite past political struggles and economic hardships, Guyanese have continued to persevere. “We keep pushing forward. We keep believing in ourselves… and today, the world is witnessing what we as Guyanese have always known: that our nation is destined for greatness,” he said.

He highlighted the role of the current administration, led by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, noting that the country is experiencing unprecedented growth across all sectors. According to the Minister, the government’s people- centered approach has ensured that development is reaching every corner of the country, including Region Two.
“Through cabinet outreaches and community engagement, the Government has brought services directly to the people… We are listening, addressing concerns, and ensuring development reaches every village,” he stated.
Ramraj pointed to major advancements in technology, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and housing, noting that thousands of Guyanese now have access to internet connectivity, while expanded educational opportunities-including free university tuition-are allowing citizens to pursue higher learning.
He also referenced ongoing investments in healthcare, including the construction and commissioning of modern hospitals and health centers, as well as infrastructural developments such as highways, housing schemes, and energy projects aimed at improving the quality of life for all Guyanese.
Meanwhile, Regional Chairman Devin Mohan described the occasion as a significant milestone in Guyana’s history, reminding citizens of the sacrifices made to achieve independence. “As our Golden Arrowhead rises proudly above us, let it remind us that patriotism is not only about celebrating our nation on Independence Day, but about serving our communities and uplifting one another,” he said.

Mohan further highlighted the importance of unity, highlighting that Guyana’s strength is rooted in its rich diversity. He noted that the country’s various cultures, religions, and traditions collectively form a unique national identity, and stressed that when citizens stand together as one people, they are capable of overcoming any challenge.
Highlighting regional development, the Chairman noted that Region Two is experiencing rapid transformation through improved infrastructure, expanded healthcare, better drainage and irrigation, housing developments, and increased opportunities for farmers, fisherfolk, and young people. “Development is no longer a promise… it is a reality unfolding before our eyes every day,” Mohan declared.
The Golden Arrowhead was lifted high into the air, marking Guyana’s 60th Independence. The moment stirred national pride among citizens, reflecting unity and a shared appreciation of the country’s journey and its promising future.
