Twenty-year-old Adriano Anthony lost his life following a collision with a motor car along the Edinburgh Public Road, East Bank Berbice, on Saturday evening.

Anthony, of Lot 1064 New Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

The accident occurred at about 19:50h on October 24 and involved motorcycle CR 6077, owned and ridden by Anthony, and motor car PJJ 8613, driven by a 22-year-old man of Lochaber Village, West Canje, Berbice.

According to preliminary police investigations, Anthony was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the Edinburgh Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the motor car, which had been stationary on the western side of the roadway, made a sudden left turn into his path.

The motorcycle collided with the left side of the car, throwing Anthony onto the roadway, where he sustained injuries about his body.

However, an eyewitness who was nearby at the time described seeing two motorcycles approaching the vehicle, claiming that they appeared to have been racing. The eyewitness further claimed that the second motorcycle did not appear to have its lights illuminated.

Although police have not confirmed the allegations of racing or the absence of motorcycle lights, their preliminary findings indicate that Anthony was allegedly travelling at a fast rate of speed when the collision occurred.

Following the impact, the eyewitness rushed the injured motorcyclist to seek medical attention.

Anthony was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Anthony’s body is at the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, police confirmed that a breathalyser test conducted on the 22-year-old motor car driver returned a zero reading. He remains in custody assisting with investigations.

The fatal collision has also brought attention to concerns about dangerous motorcycle riding along the Edinburgh Public Road, with the eyewitness alleging that the area is frequently used by motorcyclists performing wheelies and other stunts.

While police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, the eyewitness has called for increased monitoring of motorcycle activities along the Edinburgh Public Road, warning of the dangers posed by reckless riding.
