WCD man slapped with $150K fine for DUI  

Forty-nine-year-old Eon Martin Perreira of Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was on Friday fined $150,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, following investigations into a minor accident that occurred on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, along Hauraruni on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Perreira was arrested and subsequently appeared before Temeika Clarke at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

He pleaded guilty and was fined $150,000 or given an alternative of four months’ imprisonment.
