Unemployed man jailed for BJDRB copper cable theft; businessman gets bail for buying stolen materials

Roy Morgan, 39, unemployed and of no fixed place of abode, has been charged with simple larceny, contrary to Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Morgan was arrested on Wednesday in relation to a report of alleged simple larceny committed on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge between August 23 and September 1, 2026.

He was subsequently charged and appeared today, Friday, at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court #2 before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where the charge was read to him.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Mustafid Pashaw called “Mustaf”, 51, a businessman of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, has been charged with Receiving Stolen Articles, contrary to Section 237(1) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Pashaw was arrested on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in relation to the mentioned offence, which allegedly occurred on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara Harbour Bridge between Thursday, August 27, 2026, and Friday, August 28, 2026, at Sussex Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.

The accused appeared today, Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #5 before Magistrate Faith McGusty, where the indictable charge was read to him.

He was not required to plead and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of G$300,000, with the condition that he reports to the Ruimveldt Police Station on the third Friday of every month.

The matter was adjourned to October 2, 2026.
