Transformation of Georgetown Zoo & Botanical Gardens to commence soon – Pres. Ali
President Dr Irfaan Ali has announced that investments have been made to commence the Georgetown Zoo and Botanical Gardens transformation project.
He made this announcement this evening during the commissioning of the Guyana-China Friendship Park on the West Coast of Demerara in Region Three.
“I am pleased to announce that the Georgetown Zoo and Botanical Gardens transformation project will commence with an investment that will that would make it the pride of South America.”
These works will commence shortly, the president stated.

According to the Guyanese Leader, this investment will focus on recreation, education, biodiversity, awareness, tourism and equality of urban life second to none in the world.
According to President Ali, the project will be connected to the green walkway of the city, the architectural heritage walkway of the city, the cultural heritage walkway of the city, the commerce walkway of the city and the waterfront walkway of the city.
“This investment will see the full rehabilitation of gardens and water systems, modern zoo infrastructure, improve animal care and containment, visitor facilities and accessibility upgrades, education spaces, security and operational systems, elevated bridges, pathways and landscape restoration. Because of the size and complexity of this site, the project will deliver a fantastic facility that will make it a strong value for money investment”
Previously, the Government had indicated plans for a drastic upgrade of the zoo and botanical gardens spaces are part of the national development and beautification agenda.
