Police have arrested a farmer after a quantity of narcotics was recently found stashed in the yard of his Timehri, East Bank Demerara, residence.
The discovery was made during an intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday, January 9, 2026, at approximately 17:30 hours at Timehri North.
Acting on information received, the ranks on patrol proceeded to the residence of a farmer at the above-mentioned location.
Upon arrival, the ranks requested permission to search the premises. While the search of the home yielded nothing illegal, a subsequent search was conducted in the yard in the presence of the suspect.
During the search of the western fence line, ranks found a black plastic bag. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain 23 red transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems, along with 10 transparent zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems, all suspected to be cannabis.
The farmer was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Timehri Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 97 grammes. The suspected narcotics were then marked, sealed and lodged.
Investigation is currently in progress.
