A 21-year-old engineer from Wakenaam Island was attacked and robbed by armed bandits on Tuesday evening at Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), in the vicinity of the Big Kiss Parking Lot. Police stated that based on preliminary investigations, the victim was walking near the parking lot when he was approached by a lone gunman who held him at gunpoint.
Another man confronted the victim from behind and started to choke him, during which the first suspect relieved him of $200,000 in cash and a mobile phone. The suspects then entered a black Toyota Fielder wagon and fled the scene.
However, a report was subsequently made at the Parika Police Station, and based on information received, police intercepted a black Toyota Fielder wagon. A search of the vehicle led to the arrest of a 30-year-old driver and the discovery of $59,060 in cash, suspected to be part of the sum taken from the victim.
Further, a 17-year-old labourer from Stewartville, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was later arrested and taken to the Leonora Police Station. He was found to be in possession of $65,000 in cash. The motor vehicle and money recovered were lodged pending further investigation while the two suspects remain in custody.
