Guyana’s Under-17 national team kicked off their Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers campaign on a positive note, edging Bermuda 1–0 on Friday at the Estadio Francisco Morazán.

The first half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams trading blows and creating half-chances, but neither side was able to find the breakthrough. Solid defending and disciplined midfield play ensured the teams went into the halftime interval locked at 0–0.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute when Matthew Stewart delivered a moment of quality for Guyana. Receiving a well-timed assist from Mark Glasgow, Stewart received the ball on the left side of the penalty area and unleashed a precise left-footed strike that arrowed into the top left corner, leaving the Bermudian goalkeeper with no chance.

Guyana managed the remainder of the match with composure, limiting Bermuda’s opportunities and preserving their slim advantage until the final whistle. The victory gives Guyana an important early boost in the group as they look to progress in the competition.

Guyana will face a much sterner test in their next fixture when they take on hosts Honduras on February 8 at 22:00 hrs.
