Doris Joseph, an outgoing passenger who was traveling to Region One (Barima-Waini) from the Eugene F. Correia International Airport (EFCIA), was on Saturday intercepted with 338 grams of cannabis.
The interception was carried out by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) after receiving information. CANU stated that the operation led to the discovery of one parcel containing the cannabis.
Joseph was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters, where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 338 grams.
On Monday, she appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where she was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
She pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $101,000.
