Investigations are ongoing in relation to a large quantity of suspected cannabis found during an intelligence-led operation conducted Thursday morning (April 10, 2025) along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Ranks intercepted a motor vehicle near Hauraruni. The vehicle, which was traveling west along the southern side of the highway, was driven by Sherman Ferguson, a 31-year-old member of the Guyana Police Force.
Upon searching the vehicle, ranks discovered three large transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. Ferguson was cautioned and placed under arrest.
The narcotics were weighed in his presence. The total weight amounted to 34.6 kilograms.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
