Police in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have arrested a man who allegedly broke into multiple stalls at the Supenaam Market during the wee hours of today.
He has been identified as Vishal Anauge, 39, a labourer of Onderneeming, Region Two.
The suspect was caught at Spring Garden at about 08:30hrs but attempted to escape, prompting police to shoot him five times.
The suspect was taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he is admitted as a patient and remains under police guard.
Anauge reportedly broke into and robbed several stalls at the Supenaam Market, including a Superbet outlet.
Investigations are ongoing.
