Ana Trotman, a 42-year-old shop owner of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was shot dead on Saturday night in an apparent murder-suicide committed by John Trotman, 47, of Onderneeming, WBD. A 59-year-old woman also sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and is receiving medical attention, according to the police.
The incident occurred sometime between 21:45h and 22:15h at a residence in La Parfaite Harmonie.
Based on police reports, preliminary enquiries revealed that an argument reportedly occurred at the residence shortly before several loud explosions were heard.
Police ranks and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, where Ana Trotman and John Trotman were found with suspected gunshot injuries.
A Taurus .32 calibre pistol, nine spent .32 calibre shells and 30 live rounds of ammunition were recovered at the scene and lodged pending investigation.
The bodies of Ana and John were escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty and were later taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Meanwhile, the injured woman was also escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
Investigations are ongoing.
