Over 500 grams of marijuana seized during police operations at Bartica, Mahdia
Over 500 grams of marijuana have been seized during separate police operations at Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and at Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).
In Bartica, police were involved in two intelligence-led operations on Friday at Fifth Avenue.
During one of the operations, they visited the home of a 37-year-old self-employed woman where they discovered a plastic bag containing marijuana, hidden inside a wardrobe.
The woman was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the drugs were weighed in her presence and amounted to 351.6 grams.
During the other operation, ranks visited the home of 40-year-old self-employed man where they uncovered 13 packages containing ganja. Further searches of the home resulted in the discovery of cash amounting to $3,009,440. The man was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the drugs were weighed in his presence and amounted to 23.2 grams.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, 135 grams of ganja were discovered during an operation at the Mahdia Arcade on Thursday.
During the exercise, ranks conducted searches in the area and found a bulky black plastic bag inside an old refrigerator in an abandoned yard. Inside the bag was a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis along with one transparent plastic bag containing ninety-four small bags of suspected cannabis.
No arrests were made but investigations continue.
