The firearm found at Laing Avenue in Georgetown

Police in Regional Division #4 ‘A’ (Georgetown) are investigating the discovery of a firearm, which was found in the wee hours of today (Saturday, March 7, 2026) during an operation conducted at Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

The Guyana Police Force said that ranks acting on information received went to the area, sometime between 01:15hrs and 02:00hrs, where a small crowd was seen gathered on the southern side of the roadway.

During the exercise, a male in the crowd was observed acting in a suspicious manner.

Ranks approached the male, who allegedly walked to the northern side of the road and threw a handgun to the ground. The handgun was retrieved and observed to be a Glock 19 9mm pistol with a magazine and no ammunition.

The suspect, a 30-year-old businessman of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, was arrested and escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station along with the suspected firearm, which was lodged pending examination.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
