No marks of violence found on victim’s body – police on death of man in lock-ups
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has said it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 30-year-old Otis Jordan who died this morning while in custody at the Cove and John Police Station, East Coast Demerara.
Police said the man “became unresponsive” at around 00:10hrs.
Jordan, of South Haslington, was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
“He had earlier complained of feeling unwell and was escorted for medical attention, where he was seen and treated by a doctor on duty at the Enmore Regional Hospital before returning to the station. Further reports indicate that while in custody, he again complained of feeling unwell and subsequently became unresponsive,” police said.
He was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
“No marks of violence were observed on the body, which is presently at the Enmore Regional Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination,” the police added.
