The Ministry of Health has made progress in women’s health by introducing new treatment devices and working on a national plan to eliminate cervical cancer.

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony attended a presentation at Diamond Regional Hospital, where the findings on cervical cancer elimination in Guyana were discussed.

The session, facilitated by the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) in collaboration with international partners, highlighted key priorities for strengthening the country’s response to cervical cancer.

A key point of the engagement was the handover of thermal ablation devices to health authorities in all regions, improving treatment for patients with Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This will lead to quicker and easier access to care.

The initiative includes ongoing colposcopy training for healthcare professionals to help them diagnose and treat patients more quickly.

The programme is a joint effort by the Ministry of Health, PAHO, and the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Texas to improve prevention, early detection, and treatment in Guyana.

The government remains firmly committed to strengthening healthcare delivery through continued investment, strategic partnerships, and improved access to life-saving services, as it advances efforts to eliminate cervical cancer and protect the well-being of women nationwide. [DPI]
